The Committee was represented by a President and a Secretary
and had the name International Committee on the Science of
Photography. It met on the occasions of International Congresses
on Photographic Science (ICPS). Decisions have also been made
by correspondence.
In 2000, the committee and the congress were
renamed as the International Committee for Imaging Science
(ICIS) and the International Congress of Imaging Science (ICIS),
in order to meet the situation that photographic science was
becoming part of a rapidly expanding group of new fields related
to imaging science and it was desirable to promote interactions
among these various disciplines.
Two types of conferences come under the purview
of the Committee:
-- Large congresses which carry on the tradition
of the ICIS (formerly ICPS) congresses and which are to provide
an overview of the prevailing trends of imaging science
-- Symposia devoted to specialized subjects.
Their main purpose is to advance these special fields through
close discussion.
On the basis of the experience gained by the
work of the Committee, the Officers were asked at the meeting
on September 5, 1974 to draft statutes by which the future
activities of the Committee would be governed. In 2002, the
statutes were revised to conform to the renaming of the committee
and the congress.
